Eagle, Shield And Flags, all over design cover used to Maine with 3c rose (#65) tied by "Philadelphia Pa Sep 10 1862" postmark, original soldier's letter mentions:

"we had to leave Falls Church we left there the first day of September about eight at night and the rebels came in about two hours after we left they have got over into Maryland they say that they are going to have Philadelphia their winter quarters."

letter instructs return letters to be sent to General Hospital at West Philadelphia, very fine
